You can never go wrong with…
a fish!!!
I was thinking about animal abuse and pets and what not and i came to the conclusion that i have never had any problems with all the fish (which is a lot) that i have had. Well, at least until they died :/
My favorite kind is the beta fish. I have had several over the past years actually. The one i have now is named Cricket. I got the name from the book the ultimate hitchhiker’s guide (if anyone has ever read it). The ones before that were Bella (a gift from my friend Paul), Tito (named after UFC fighter Tito Ortiz and a gift from my sister), and i can’t remember much of the other names. I have also had numerous goldfish. First, it was polo & chanel… then sadly, chanel passed so i bought boo. Boo was so adorable! When she died i was pretty upset. So then, i just had good ol’ Polo! Until he died of course… thats when the beta fish came into play.
Cricket has been a trooper though! he even made it through the move from my old house to my new place with me.
All in all though… i guess what i am saying is that i like fish. I think everyone should have a pet fish someday…
Hope you enjoyed reading my ramblings about my fish, but everyone should take my advice and get a fish! ![]()

This is an interesting blog entry
I can definitely relate to it because of your use of conversational rambling and relaxed tone. My first beta, Gustavo, recently passed away but I am thinking about getting another one. He was my little beta-buddy and I miss him dearly. I agree that everyone should experience owning a fish…IF they know that they can handle the responsibilities of cleaning the bowl properly and feeding him/her. You might be able to find something about abusing fish?? i dont mean eating them or anything, but I know, for example, that the humane way to put a fish down if it is sick is to put its bowl in the freezer. This sounds weird, but when the temperature of the water is cold enough, the fish will just go to sleep then die. Flushing the fish while it is still sick is not humane because the fish will obviously not have the proper chlorine levels and it will suffer in the sewage pipes.
I have never had a fish but my cousin who is allergic to basically anything with four legs has had several. For some reason his fish always die within the first week of him getting them. I once had a friend who was basically obsessed with beta fish. She would buy a new one pretty much every month, but this was due to them all dying. She would never give them normal pet names, but would give them names of objects. I remember when tree, a fish that I had helped her pick out, died. I was very sad
. I do however think that they are good pets for people who are allergic. It is a good way to generate responsibility for children growing up.
My roommate has a Beta fish named Fish! She is absolutely obsessed with it =] She has had it for 3 years! It really is beautiful it’s blue and red “rainbowesked” I used to have an aquarium when I was younger with all different kinds of fish in it. I don’t know how Fish is still alive though cause she moves it back and forth with her from home and to school and back all the time, but it is still keeping up. I have never met anyone who spoils a fish like her though I mean honestly she has all these anti fungal drops, salt equalizer drops, etc. it’s crazy hahaha but yeah I really enjoyed your ramblings!
I love fish. I have had a weird obsession with them ever since I was 6 years old. I got my first 10 gallon fish tank when I was in 1st grade. I bought some goldfish at first to test the water to make sure it was at correct pH and had a significant amount of bacterial growth in the tank to sustain a fish population. Basically, they were “tester” fish. I remember two of their names: Cindy Crawford and Max. When it was time to get “real” fish, I moved Max and Cindy over to a friends house where they lived happily for 6 more years. I really want to talk about all my fish I have had..I have had sooo many! Ok so, I continued to pursue my obsession and passion of observing fish. I switched several times between Tropical fish which are mild mannered and community friendly fish, and African Cichlids which are basically cold blooded killers; they are so pretty, but so aggressive! I became especially intrigued by the African Cichlid breeding practices. The male has several yellow dots on his unpaired ventral fin. These dots are used to emulate fish eggs. Now, the female lays her eggs on the bottom of the tank and then does something no other fish does: picks them up in her mouth! While she is in the process of picking them up, the male swims over and lays his body and fin with spots on it flat on the ground. The female thinks the spots on the male’s tail are eggs so she lunges for them and tries to pick them up in her mouth. When she does this, the male shoots sperm out in order to fertilize the eggs. The process continues several times for about 5 minutes. I have actually seen this happen and I must say, it is beautiful. It is as if they are dancing..Anyways, I used to breed African Cichlids and sell them to stores. I think I did this for about 7 or so years. My brother and I did it together so I can’t take all the credit. In addition to this obsession, I love catfish. I love everything about them; the way they look, the way they taste, the way they eat too much and get really fat. haha. Anyways, I will end my conversation on fish with this: my longest living fish lived for 10 years! I didn’t name him..(I don’t name a lot of my fish because I believe it to be bad luck.) I wouldn’t recommend Betas as pets. They are not hardy fish and only last for 2 or so years. I would recommend the South American catfish. It is hardy but ugly. It only cost a dollar but it eats all the other fish in the tank. Mine is called Pudgy-Mudgy.
I have never been a fish person. After the first two fish funerals of my childhood which consisted of me flushing them down the toilet and my brother playing taps on his trumpet, I decided to stay away from them as pets. I did however receive a beta fish as a party gift and was one of the only party gifts that I actually kept….FOR 6 MONTHS!! Those beta fish last forever !
